Frequently
Asked
Questions

What is surrogacy?
Surrogacy is an assisted reproduction technique through which a woman helps other people to have a child when they cannot do so on their own. The woman carries out the gestation of a baby that will later be the responsibility of the future parents who will be the only holders of paternity of the baby. The egg used for conception is never from the pregnant woman but from the future mother or a donor.

Is surrogacy legal in Mexico?
It is legal, but not all states in Mexico have legislation on the subject. However, we offer you legal advice so that no matter where you are in the country (or the world), we can legally form your family in compliance with Mexican law.

What are the requirements to access surrogacy?
It is important that the future parents do not have a criminal record and agree with the legal procedures that are established during the development of the pregnancy. There is no discrimination against people who perform this technique, regardless of their race, sexual condition, marital status, etc.

Can the woman who will act as a surrogate be selected?
Thanks to the agencies with which we collaborate closely, you can choose from several women volunteers.  All pregnant women have passed strict selection criteria. We recommend that you enjoy good physical and mental health and that you remain in a favorable economic and social situation for the development of the baby during pregnancy.

Are there chances of losing the baby in case of conflict with the surrogate mother after childbirth?
In case of conflict with the surrogate mother, the laws of the different states where surrogacy is regulated, establish a judicial system that guarantees the future parents the bond or affiliation necessary to maintain full custody of the newborn.

Will the rights of women who act as surrogate mothers be respected?
Yes. The rights of all the people who participate in surrogacy are regulated in detail. In addition, at all times the women volunteers in this process are aware of the rights granted to them. Our collaborating agencies have a very wide network of volunteers, all of them in favorable social and economic situations and fully aware of their rights. These agencies also act as protection for pregnant women so that there is no abuse of their privacy.

Will I be able to maintain a relationship with the surrogate mother after childbirth?
Yes. Your relationship with the surrogate mother is your choice. The agency will help you find a pregnant woman who suits your characteristics, the relationship you maintain with her later will depend on you. It is just as respectable to maintain a continuous or intermittent relationship with the surrogate mother once the process is over, or even not to have contact with her again.

Can more than one baby be born in a single pregnancy through surrogacy?
Yes, twins can be born. Normally the transfer of 1 or a maximum of 2 embryos is recommended to increase the success rate. The final decision to transfer 1 or 2 embryos is always made by the intended parents.
